Read this article for some ideas of fun toys you can make with your family!<\/p>\n<p>These DIY toys may not be right for every dog. Pick a strong fabric (cotton, fleece, denim, etc.) and braid to a size that matches your dog.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use scissors to cut the fabric into strips that are all the same length. Remove any buttons, decorations, or pieces that could hurt your pup.<\/li>\n<li>Tie the ends of the strips securely together in a knot.<\/li>\n<li>Braid the strips together however you like.<\/li>\n<li>When you finish braiding, tie another knot at the end of the braid.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/bm7ez7QJ_Fs?t=66\">Click to see a video on how to make this toy. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to make something that\u2019s more of a challenge, here are a few creative ideas for you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diynetwork.com\/made-and-remade\/make-it\/fleece-tug-and-fetch-dog-toy\">A ball attached to a rope<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dalmatiandiy.com\/2016\/08\/basic-box-knot-vs-twisted-box-knot-diy.html\">An intricate, sturdy braid<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>PLASTIC WATER BOTTLE TOY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11910\" src=\"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-le-2020-04-14-\u00e0-14.40.18.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-le-2020-04-14-\u00e0-14.40.18.png 654w, https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-le-2020-04-14-\u00e0-14.40.18-300x192.png 300w, https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-le-2020-04-14-\u00e0-14.40.18-600x383.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A simple empty bottle and a piece of fabric can be transformed into a toy your dog will adore!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut a piece of fabric to a size that will comfortably cover an empty plastic bottle.<\/li>\n<li>Cut a fringe at either end of the piece of fabric.<\/li>\n<li>Place some kibble or treats into the bottle and put the cap back on.<\/li>\n<li>Wrap the fabric around the bottle and tie each end using the strips in the fringes you cut out.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can also use a sock to make this toy. Just put the bottle in the sock, tie a knot at the end, and you\u2019re done!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2nAV3dSw8RY&amp;feature=emb_title\">Click to see a video on how to make this toy. <\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>GIVE A DOG A BONE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11911\" src=\"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/6a0133ec490e97970b01b7c7ac0bda970b-800wi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/6a0133ec490e97970b01b7c7ac0bda970b-800wi.jpg 700w, https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/6a0133ec490e97970b01b7c7ac0bda970b-800wi-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/6a0133ec490e97970b01b7c7ac0bda970b-800wi-600x823.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Who would have thought that an empty bottle and a piece of fabric could make such a cute toy!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smallfriendly.com\/files\/water-bottle-bone-pattern.pdf\">this pattern<\/a> to cut the shape of a bone out of your chosen fabric.<\/li>\n<li>Pin the two pieces together so that the shapes line up.<\/li>\n<li>Sew a border about half an inch from the edge to join the two pieces together.<\/li>\n<li>Turn your project inside out.<\/li>\n<li>Put the bottle inside the pouch you sewed. If you want the ends to be fuller, place some stuffing or scraps of fabric around the bottle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smallfriendly.com\/small-friendly\/2015\/07\/diy-dog-toy.html\">Click here for more detailed instructions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also make a more classic version of this stuffed toy by filling your fabric pattern with tissue paper, plastic bags, or stuffing from an old ripped toy. You could make a stuffed bone, round cushion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Zx5Jv7LOagk\">or heart<\/a>\u2014the possibilities are endless! You can even add a squeaker to make it a squeak toy!<\/p>\n<p>Important: Don\u2019t give this type of toy to your dog if they tend to rip apart stuffed animals! Make a sandbox for your dog and bury some toys or treats in it. Your dog will have a blast digging them up! This gives your dog an appropriate place to dig so they don\u2019t tear up your lawn!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Determine what size sandbox you want to build.<\/li>\n<li>Cut a wooden board to the right size to make the bottom.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the height of the sides and cut out additional wooden boards.<\/li>\n<li>Sand all the pieces of wood so your dog doesn\u2019t get hurt.<\/li>\n<li>Use wood glue to secure the side boards to the base.
