{"id":20971,"date":"2021-01-12T14:20:19","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T19:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/?page_id=20971"},"modified":"2021-01-21T13:26:51","modified_gmt":"2021-01-21T18:26:51","slug":"joint-health","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/globalvet.ca\/en\/nutrition\/nutrition-dog\/dog-specialized\/joint-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint health in dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Arthritis: Swelling and pain in your dog\u2019s joints<\/h2>\n<p>Arthritis or osteoarthritis is a general term used to describe abnormal, progressive, and irreversible joint degeneration causing inflammation and deformation in joint structures like the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cartilage<\/li>\n<li>Joint capsule<\/li>\n<li>Synovial fluid that lubricates the joints<\/li>\n<li>Bones<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In North America, 20% of dogs over age 1 suffer from osteoarthritis\u2014a figure that jumps to 80% after age 8.<\/p>\n<p>Structural changes can occur in the joints even before the onset of clinical symptoms, so you may not even realize anything\u2019s wrong. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to learn to recognize the signs and act quickly to slow the damage.<\/p>\n<p>Have a large breed? Be aware that they\u2019re more prone to arthritis than smaller dogs.<\/p>\n<p>So how can you tell if your dog is suffering from joint pain?
